Department of Education :

Education is considered to be a vital element in the development of the society and country that enables the people to come to the conscious of their socioeconomic situations. It has the power to influence every individual to shift toward economic development as education always opens the possibilities of learning to enhance the abilities effectively and explore the available opportunities. It is a proven fact globally that education is the only means of breaking the cycle of poverty among the marginalized and disadvantaged communities as education ensure sustainable economic growth in the society. COREED is proud to announce that COREED is able to bring a recognizable change in the lives of the children, youth, women and the families in these interior villages where COREED is working.

COREED has established 30 Rural Free Study Centres in 30 remote villages of Prakasam and Nellore districts of Andhra Pradesh where people cannot access educational facilities.

Before COREED entered into these villages there were no proper roads, electricity, primary schools and housing in these villages. But today with the initiation of COREED with the help of the government today villages have primary schools, roads, electricity and housing in these villages. Children regularly attend Rural Free Study Centres that function during the evenings. Students are given opportunity to express their talents in the Rural Free Study Centers. They have time to play, do yoga and exercise while studying. Every Rural Free Study Center has two teachers and a helper to take care of the students to study in safe environment. The participation of the villagers in all COREED activities is a key factor for the effective working of COREED. Villagers have acknowledged the development and their participation has indeed increased the responsibility to continue working with COREED to bring more changes in their villages. The teachers and the volunteers along with our experienced counsellors help the parents, responsible persons in the village and the students personally to motivate them towards the importance of education and economic growth in the society. They also impart needed knowledge to pursue the development activities and to bridge with government to get their rights that are reserved from the government. The Rural Free Study Centers students continue to use their educational opportunities provided by COREED and have successfully upgraded their educational standards. Our students have improved their skills in learning and as result students from our Rural Free Study Centers score good marks in their regular schools and are much appreciated by the principals of the schools.

During the summer holidays commencing from April to end of May COREED organizes a special educational program called Summer Free Tutorial Institutes in all the villages. We appoint senior teachers and old students from Rural Free Study Centres who have completed their graduation to help the students in upgrading their educational standards before they enter into higher classes and colleges. The rural students still do face difficulty in understanding the subjects such as English, Mathematics and Sciences and therefore we take special care during these summer holidays without wasting their time. The Summer Free Tutorial Institutes play a dynamic role in stopping the family’s migrations in to towns and cities as bonded labours where children forcibly pushed into child labour. COREED is very happy that Summer Free Tutorial Institutes have been preventing these migrations. Most of the migrants from our villagers suffer as they live in unhygienic environment without proper basic facilities like housing, water and sanitation that leads to deadly diseases and end up their lives very early without realizing their dreams of development.

Summer Free Tutorial Institutes have indeed stopped the migrations as well as child labour and enabling them to be educated and to enjoy the benefits while going to schools and improving the academic standards. There is another encouraging factor that commenced from this year is that the government of Andhra Pradesh is giving money to the parents for sending their children to schools and also is determined to improve school environments for both safety and learning.

The Rural Free Study Centers and Summer Free Tutorial Institutes have immensely improved educational standards that enabled the students to write competitive exams conducted by government for Dalit and Adivasi students for the free residential education program called ‘GurukulaPatashala” and “NavodayaPatashala”. Almost all the children qualify to this exam and enter into these schools from or after 5th class. COREED is very happy that children are successfully completing their studies with good grade even from the government residential schools and are entering into colleges and universities. Usually it is common that rich children enjoy learning by having home tuitions or going to a tuition point by spending money whereas these deprived communities cannot afford to pay money and therefore COREED educational programs are very helpful in improving educational standards like all other children though they are from disadvantaged communities living far away from the regular society.

End of every academic year COREED is more satisfied with all its contributions while more than 80% of children achieve great results in their studies and enter into high schools, colleges special courses and universities. Rural Free Study Centers have educated thousands of children for all these 30 years. Our students have established on their own in life with the feeling of dignity and self reliant. They contribute to the education in their respective villages helping in COREED activities and also helping the academically opting students by paying fee and buying text books and so on.

Department of Health Services :

Remote rural areas of India where the Dalits and Adivasis are inhabitants do still suffer lack of proper health care facilities. The health care facilitators cannot survive and therefore we find majority of the healthcare providers prefer to stay in towns and cities and certainly not in remote rural areas where it is not beneficial. These communities survive on daily wages which is hardly sufficient to feed the family and thus their living conditions cannot afford financially to travel to towns and cities to go to the hospitals. The transportation facilities are inadequate and further it is an expensive task for these poor to travel to the towns. The bus services run by the government are very scant even today. Most of the villages have bus services that operate one in the morning to go to towns and come back in the evening.

The area of their inhabitation is also causing health problems as most of the villages are surrounded by polluted backwaters of industries and they are in low lying areas.

Villages suffer from entering the waste water during normal days and the flood waters during the rainy season causing contagious diseases. The life expectancy has minimized in these communities because of the contagious diseases and poor health care facilities. Free medical services are not available in these interior villages and therefore it is a common scenario that you find at least one person in family continue to suffer with physical sickness. These areas are allotted by the government to these Dalit and Adivasi communities and therefore unfortunately they cannot move to other places.

COREED has been contributing its services in this environment and COREED is a health care providing source for these communities. We are dedicated to serve these neglected communities in this region of South India. Every day COREED medical team visit two villages and treat about 100-140 patients and provides free medicine. In rotation our medical team will visit a village once in 15 days. During this time the doctors will specify the patients who require further treatment and recommend them for the special camps such as Gynecology, Eye and Pediatric Camps. They also identify some patients suffering from cancer, HIV AIDS, leprosy and etc., are for long time medical care. We act immediately and send those patients to the specified government hospitals for further treatment. We thank the medical team for their dedicated services and saving the lives of these people.

This year a suddenly big number of villagers suffered with Dengue fever. It was a medical emergency and COREED medical team went around all the villages and confirmed the symptoms as Dengue fever. The need conducting pathological test were seriously required to treat the patients. We have arranged pathological team to collect the blood samples from the patients suffering with symptoms and came up with the tests. The reports confirmed Dengue fever and found most of the patients suffered with low platelet count level in the test. Emergency action was taken to save the lives and could provide medication of both allopathic andayurveda (juice of papaya fruit plant leaves) medicine to treat the patients in the villages. We have also organized Special Paediatric Camps, Special Gynecology Camps and Special Eye Camps in all the villages of COREED with the help of the super specialty doctors from the towns to help in these special health camps. We are indeed thankful to these dedicated specialist doctors who have extended their services freely and also further helped with some needed medicine.

In the Special Medical Camps the doctors have observed and found serious patients in the area of Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Ophthalmology for medical emergency. COREED has immediately attended all the seriously suffering patients who have been suffering with chronic health issues to the government hospitals in the towns. The observations are that

  •  Most of the children were suffering with malnutrion leading to poor vision. We were suggested to provide multivitamin tablets to all the children
  •  Women were suffering with unexplainable Gynaecology problems
  •  In Ophthalmology majority of the patients suffer from cataract who are above 45 years of age who need cataract operations before providing specs.

COREED has immediately acted on the recommendations made by the doctors and provided multivitamin tablets for the children and continued till our medical team confirmed that they gained strength. Gynaecology patients with serious conditions were taken to the hospitals for further treatment. The cataract sufferers were taken to the government hospitals for cataract operations by the government. We have provided money to buy the course of needed medicine after the operations. We are happy that we could provide specs to hundreds of the patients this year besides attending all other medical needs of these people. The interesting subject is that the super specialty doctors after attending the special camps were motivated seeing these remote villages and have suggested to help the seriously ill patients from COREED villages for free treatment in their super specialty hospitals in the towns. While we were taking them to villages the doctors were afraid as vehicles were entering into forests areas… but later after entering into the village where health camps were organized were deeply moved for COREED dedication and have appreciated COREED for all contributions towards the development of these Dalit and Adivasi villages.

Department of Women Empowerment :

COREED is dedicated to improve the lives of these women who live in these remote rural regions of Andhra Pradesh, India with our Women Empowerment Programs. Our programs that are aimed for the overall development of the women has indeed brought recognizable change because of the commitment of COREED Women Empowerment Department sustained activities. Thoughthe Indian historical hierarchical structures do not encourage the women to become economic independent and were known to be the silent oppressors in the society. But today the changes are taking place where women are into decision making, leadership, education, business and into politics.

During the early days of COREED Women Empowerment initiations COREED has faced tremendous difficulties from the local land lords, money lenders, business people from the

sociopolitical leadership within the villages where we have faced and forced to attend various legal authorities with was very common occurrence in COREED regular life where we were restrained from entering into these remote Dalit and Adivasi villages because of change we brought in the lives of these rural poor women. The socioeconomicimprovementof the lives of these villagers especially women will be a loss to the local business people and money lenders. Therefore COREED constantly come up with improved strategies to achieve effective and sustainable improvement in the lives of these Dalit and Adivasi women who were ignored historically. The goal of COREED is to liberate them from illiteracy, poverty and ensure to improve their economic independency and enable them to make intelligent decision both in family and in the villages that are very important for the overall development of the family and community.

To achieve this we commenced our initiation with education, skills development, Self Help Groups and encouraged small businesses among the women and enlightened the need of economic growth. After fewyearsof our sustained contributions COREED could see change in the lives of these women. Today COREED has 12 Women Development Centers where women gather to learn tailoring, knitting, embroidery, stitching, toys making, painting, foods and many other according to the need of the present market. We are happy that most of the women after taking training from the Women Development Centers are either employed or self-employed with the skills they have learnt. Besides regular training we organize Skills Development Training Programs and Knowledge Management Programs by inviting related women legal professionals, government officials and bank managers to impart knowledge on the available loans and resources from the government to explore into small business world of economy.

The COREED Women Empowerment is very happy that today the girl children are completing 10th Class and further pursuing into universities to do their area of interest in studies. Girl students after their studies are turning to be leaders both in their village as well in their colleges because of the skills they have acquired from both Rural Free Study Centers and Women Development Centers. Child marriages or the illiterate girls are not found in the villages where COREED is working in spite of prevailing cast system in the society. The mothers from the Women Development Centers are now more civilized, well mannered and are now saving some money for their children further education. The married women have gained respect from their husbands, children and from the extended family. We have seen boys as school dropouts in the villages but not girls these days. They are turning to be brave right from schools and are now entering into professional courses with their good academic records. There is no oppression on girl child or women in the families with all the achievements of the women. Most of the women in our villages are into political leaderships where they are taking good decisions for the development of their villages.

Every Women Development Center has a senior Tutor who is experienced and is able to train the students professionally. In each Women Development Center 20 students are enrolled every year. This year we are happy in announce 240 students trained in all 12 Women Development Centers. Most of the student form Women Development Centers are enrolled every year. This year we are happy to announce that 240 students trained Most of the student form Women Development Centers are either self employed or employed in garment industries and are becoming helpful to their husbands in sharing the economic burden.
